Executive Director, Riverkeeper (Tarrytown, NY)

Deadline: July 1, 2010 (anticipated start date)

The Executive Director is the organization's senior executive officer and provides overall strategic direction for the organization and leadership of the staff management team. The ED reports to the Board Chair and Executive Committee of the Board and coordinates with the Board on overall governance. The ED manages an assistant and several department directors that oversee Riverkeeper programs, finance, operations and fundraising. The ED also works with a variety of partners and stakeholders to develop a broad base of support for Riverkeeper and its mission.

Founded in 1966, Riverkeeper is New York's leading clean water advocacy organization and the flagship of the worldwide waterkeeper movement. Riverkeeper's primary mission is to protect the ecological integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries, and to safeguard the drinking water supply of New York City and the lower Hudson Valley.

Candidates should have:
* A substantial history of working in the environmental sector, ideally as an advocate with management experience
* A demonstrated track record of success in fundraising, especially in the area of major donor cultivation;
* Strong writing, editing and computer skills and be able to use a variety of styles and voices to reach different audiences;
* Significant experience and comfort with public speaking;
* Extensive experience working with the media, including doing television interviews, press conferences, etc.

Compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with skills and experience.
