The GreenBridge Community Field Manager position was created to coordinate new initiatives and some ongoing programs described in "Greening Brooklyn Together," the October 2007 GreenBridge Strategic Plan, including management of the GreenBridge Community Garden Alliance and the Street Tree Stewardship Initiative; development of the Brooklyn Urban Gardener certificate program; and support for Making Brooklyn Bloom and the Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest.
GreenBridge, the community environmental horticulture program of Brooklyn Botanic Garden, promotes the greening of the urban environment through education, conservation, and creative partnerships. As part of the Education Department at BBG, GreenBridge works in partnership with block associations, community gardens, community centers, social service agencies and other groups.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Facilitate the GreenBridge Community Garden Alliance, including annual registration, plant giveaways, summer workshops, community composting, site visits, and events at BBG
* Implement the Street Tree Stewardship Initiative by coordinating training activities and workshops currently funded by MillionTreesNYC, including attendance at citywide Stew Corps meetings and supervision of seasonal interns from NYC Civic Corp. Provide education about street tree care to blocks participating in the Greenest Block in Brooklyn.
* Assist development of the Brooklyn Urban Gardener certificate program through research and teaching workshops; help plan Making Brooklyn Bloom, the annual community horticulture conference at BBG
* Supervise data entry, computer records, and file management
* Represent Brooklyn GreenBridge in appropriate partnerships
* Perform any other department or related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor.
Supervision Excercised:
The GreenBridge Community Field Manager supervises seasonal interns and volunteers as available.
Relationships:
Internal- All staff at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
External- NYC Parks and Recreation, community gardeners, block associations, environmental nonprofits, and volunteers.
Work Environment Issues:
Available to work occasional evenings and weekends to teach workshops and support GreenBridge/BBG events.

QUALIFICATIONS
BA or BS degree (Master's preferred) in horticulture, environmental science, waste management, or other related field; 3-4 years experience in urban horticulture preferred. Keen interest and ease in working with the public; strong interpersonal skills. Self-starter; able to work alone and as part of a team. Excellent writing and teaching skills; experience in public speaking helpful. Able to handle basic office organization. Knowledge of Access and Listrak preferred. Experience living in an urban setting strongly preferred. Able to address the unique challenges of urban gardening. Valid NYS driver's license (driving is required). Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred. Available to work occasional evenings and weekends to teach workshops and support GreenBridge/BBG events.
