Landscape Architect Project Manager, Washington Parks & People (Washington, DC)

Washington Parks & People is seeking a landscape architect and land restoration manager to lead urban ecological planning and restoration work across the Capital, including environmental planning, landscape design, graphic and technical production, and management of urban ecological restoration.

The Landscape Architect will develop and implement plans for landscape projects in parks, trails, community gardens, watersheds, and community facilities across Washington, DC, with a special focus on using land restoration to help under-served communities meet their most vital needs for health, jobs, recreation, education, and sustainability.

The Landscape Architect will help communities plan and execute dramatic urban environmental revitalization throughout the District of Columbia, grounded in a community-based approach to restoring natural systems and native forests, habitats, and permaculture. Working alongside our President, Green Corps Director, and Community Greening Coordinator, the Manager will plan urban forestry reclamation and other parks and greening sites across long forgotten neighborhoods of the capital.

The Manager will plan and lead diverse landscape projects ranging from urban tree canopy restoration to community gardens, from innovative parks and playgrounds to trails and community centers. The Manager will help create such models as an urban tree nursery, a play garden, and a green job incubator and living museum of the urban parks and greening movement.

QUALIFICATIONS
A. Applicants must show successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in landscape architecture, natural resources, or related field, or
B. Combination of education and experience----for each year short of graduation, one (1) year of experience under professional leadership of such character as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. Experience must include landscape design and restoration.

REQUIRED SKILLS
* 4 Years of landscape design and restoration experience
* Commitment to advancing environmental urban community reclamation
* Strong understanding of natural systems and ecology
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) skills
* Working knowledge of graphic software programs (Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, SketchUp, and PowerPoint)
* Working knowledge of GIS (ArcMap) and AutoCAD
* Creative freehand illustration and rendering skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Experience using holistic land restoration to serve both nature and people.
* Ability to work with and inspire diverse partners in innercity neighborhoods, community organizations, government agencies, and funders on comprehensive urban environmental planning and restoration.
