Incumbent must have knowledge and ability to provide consultation and/or advice or testimony. Use skill in logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions. Ability to make decisions or solve problems by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives and propose quality solutions.
Must be skillful in communicating information and ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Must be able to read and understand information presented in writing. Knowledge and skills in the planting, establishment, and care of trees in urban environments. Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of land management. Knowledge of principles, theories and practices of forestry and/or forest management. Ability to supervise others by assigning/directing work. Skills in basic computer operating and programming.
DUTIES AND TASKS
* Provide technical assistance and advice to cities regarding the planting, establishment and care of trees in urban environments.
* Meet with City Councils and Neighborhood groups to promote FFSL grants, Tree City USA, Arbor Day and other program objectives.
* Identify specific needs that a community could apply for an FFSL grant to solve community forest problems.
* Perform tree inventories in public parks and city street tree populations.
* Work with community staff and volunteers to develop sustainable urban forest systems.
* Assist communities in the four standards to achieve Tree City USA recognition (tree board development, tree ordinance adoption, urban forestry budget and Arbor Day celebration).
* Provide training to citizens, tree care professionals and municipal representatives on tree establishment, tree maintenance, tree pruning, hazard trees, and other care standards.
* Network with local city governments, non-profit groups and non-traditional partners to build a community of support for urban forestry in Southern Utah.
* Initiate partnerships with developers, homebuilders, large-scale landscape industry and others in order to positively influence design layouts for new communities, neighborhoods, corporate parks and individual sites.
* Assist with Statewide program objectives.
* Assist U & CF coordinator with Heritage and Big Tree verifications in the southern part of the state.
* Cooperate with changing federal Guidelines and provide information for CARS reporting.
* Promote ISA certified Arborist program.
* Assist communities with grant application process.
* Assist U&CF coordinator with post-grant project reviews.
* Promote the State Arbor Day Poster contest.
* Distribute Tree City USA recognition materials and personally acknowledge all area Tree City USA communities individually or jointly.
