Vice President of Science and Conservation, The Morton Arboretum (Lisle, IL)

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Science & Conservation leads the Arboretum's strategy for tree-related science and conservation and is responsible for planning, strategic direction, program integration, fund raising and external relations related to all programmatic components.

In concert with the Head of Research, the Vice President provides strategic leadership for the research program. In addition, the position directs the Arboretum's climate change strategy; tree and woodland conservation agenda including coordination of the Global Trees Campaign; leads the Community Trees Program and related urban forest initiatives; and actively explores collaboration opportunities with other institutions to support innovative science and conservation projects.

We seek a proven leader in conservation science whose doctoral-level education related to the plant sciences, forestry, ecology or related disciplines and whose anagement-level responsibilities for directing substantial scientific and research programs has resulted in broad understanding and knowledge supportive of the Arboretum's mission. A strong background in strategic planning related to conservation science goals is required. Demonstrated management skills are essential to the success of this position including operating and capital budget oversight, staff recruitment and supervision, new program development, fund raising and public relations.
