2009 Excellence in Urban Journalism Awards

Deadline: June 30, 2009

Enterprise Community Partners and the Freedom Forum are accepting entries for the 2009 Excellence in Urban Journalism Award. The award is intended to encourage and recognize quality reporting on major issues facing urban areas in the United States, particularly inner cities. ACT members should consider encouraging journalists with whom they work to submit an entry including a letter of support from you.

Each entry must involve a news report regarding an urban issue in the United States. Topics may include, but are not limited to, affordable housing, community development, homelessness, child care, and the after-effects of disasters that have left people homeless and communities destroyed. The entry should examine how a city or community has been affected by a situation. The entry may be a single article or broadcast, or a series, and must have been published or broadcast during the 2008 calendar year.

Individuals or their news organizations may submit an entry. Two winners will be selected and each will receive a plaque and a monetary award of $2,500.
