Construction and Horticulture Internship (New York, NY)

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is recruiting interns with a desire to learn more about urban horticulture and landscaping by assisting our Construction and Horticulture Department in the implementation of projects throughout New York City. This opportunity provides exposure to a diverse array of plant material, landscape designs, and landscaping and construction professionals. The position is 75% in-office and 25% fieldwork. This is an unpaid internship. Internship slots are available from August 2008 to May 2009.

Interns must be enrolled in a two or four year college with credentials in a field pertaining to horticultural studies, environmental studies, or landscaping. Such fields include biology, natural resources, environmental science, horticulture, landscape construction, engineering, landscape design, greenhouse management, gardening, botany, or entomology.

Major duties and responsibilities include:
* Research products, materials and services necessary for landscape construction
* Organize and update existing database of construction vendors, goods and services
* Coordinate and assist in meetings
* Assist in interpreting construction drawings
* Assist in acquiring legal documents such as contracts, agreements, permits, etc.
* Clerical and other duties as assigned

NYRP carries out founder Bette Midler's dream of a cleaner, more beautiful New York City. NYRP revitalizes and develops underserved parks, community gardens, and other open spaces in underserved neighborhoods in all five boroughs. Additionally, in these green spaces, we also coordinate enriching educational and public programming for schoolchildren, gardeners, and other interested citizens.
