Davis Conservation Foundation

Deadlines: April 10 and October 10, 2009

The Davis Conservation Foundation is a public charitable foundation established in 1989 by Phyllis C. Davis and H. Halsey Davis of Falmouth, Maine, to support protection of the environment and conservation of our natural resources. The foundation was established following Mr. Davis's retirement as President and Chairman of Shaw's Supermarkets and has provided over $9.99 million in grants to conservation organizations since its founding in 1989.

The Davis Conservation Foundation's highest geographic priority is Northern New England, particularly projects involving the Northern Forest and the Gulf of Maine. The next geographic priority is the remainder of New England, and only infrequently are grants made outside of new England.

The Davis Conservation Foundation's broad purpose is to support the wise utilization, protection and advancement of our physical environment and the different natural forms of life that inhabit it, including wildlife, sea life and mankind as they are impacted by the environment. To accomplish this, the foundation supports organizations whose areas of interest include:
* Projects related to wildlife, wildlife habitat, environmental protection and outdoor recreation.
* Projects that strengthen volunteer activity and outreach/community involvement in the above-noted areas.
