The Nine Mile Run Watershed Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoration and protection of the Nine Mile Run Watershed, is hiring for an Executive Director.
Responsibilities include:
Lead sustainable non-profit organization in the restoration and protection of the Nine Mile Run Watershed, and provide long-term stewardship and ecological monitoring of the watershed. Maintain a financially viable organization with high quality programming in the areas of stewardship, restoration, advocacy, outreach and research. Ensure maintenance of official records and documents and compliance with federal, state and local regulations and all grant requirements. Represent the Watershed Association and collaborate with non-profit organizations, state and local governments, and other stakeholders. Serve at the direction of an active working Board of Directors. Manage the day to day operations of the organization including staff of three full-time employees. Travel within Allegheny County is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage the following:
1. Advocacy/Oversight:
* Work closely with local, state and federal government and nonprofits to facilitate activities related to watershed restoration, including, Nine Mile Run Ecosystem Restoration Project, rehabilitation of green space, and stormwater management demonstration projects
* Engage citizens and public officials as knowledgeable advocates of the watershed
* Oversee outreach tools including newsletters, website, and annual report
* Promote the organization through the media to the general public
* Serve as the public face of the organization to external constituencies, members, potential members, donors, potential donors, government officials, and community leaders
2. Programming:
* Prepare, present to board and adhere to annual work plan
* Provide direct involvement in watershed monitoring, citizen engagement, and demonstration projects
* Work with staff, Board and volunteers to develop and implement new programs that address strategic plan, community needs, and new or emerging issues related to watershed health and stream management that align with the strategic plan
3. Revenue Generation:
* Research and identify new donor sources; write grant proposals and applications
* Manage fundraising efforts including grant proposals to federal, state, and foundation sources, corporate solicitations, individual contributions, memberships, and events
* Provide support and grow relationship with existing donors
* Develop collaborative projects/partnerships with interested organizations
4. Financial Management:
* Monitor grant spending and report to Finance Committee and Board on financial activities
* Develop annual budget
* Supervise bookkeeper to ensure proper record keeping and tracking
