University City Green (UCG) is now accepting applications for Executive Director. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership qualities and have experience in fundraising, project/program management and development, public relations, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Summary of Organization
University City Green (UCG) is a 501c3 non-profit that was incorporated in 2004. UCG is a successful community organization that promotes, coordinates, and supports volunteer community greening in University City, West, and Southwest Philadelphia neighborhoods. Through partnerships, UCG builds community, endorses sustainable practices, and champions environmental stewardship.
Each spring and fall, UC Green volunteers plant hundreds of street trees and enhance public green spaces, contributing thousands of hours in service to the community. The summer tree maintenance youth employment program, the UC Green Corps, cares for 500 young trees planted by UC Green volunteers. UC Green's Pruning Club program meets weekly during the summer to train volunteers in proper tree pruning techniques while performing on-ground pruning of the area's street trees.
Summary of Position
The Executive Director of UC Green is a full-time position responsible for the overall management of the organization, reporting to the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will take the initiative to maintain the organization's programs and accomplishments through the identification of funding sources, procurement of resources, and the mobilization of community and student volunteers. The Executive Director establishes relationships with institutions, foundations, corporations, community-based organizations, city agencies, local businesses, homeowners, students, and others interested in the greening of University City.
Position Specifications
* Experience planning and managing projects of varied scope.
* Demonstrated success in fund-raising, grant writing, and budget management.
* Demonstrated leadership with volunteer groups in a diverse community setting.
* Ability to work with board members to advance the strategic plan of the organization.
* Experience in marketing, public relations, and media outreach.
* Ability to leverage project support through partnerships with universities, city agencies, community-based organizations and businesses.
* Experience in hiring, supervising and developing staff, both paid and volunteer.
Position Qualifications
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Excellent communication and computer skills.
* Working knowledge about trees and horticulture, urban forestry, and/or landscape architecture; city planning background a plus.
* An independent self starter, highly organized and detail oriented.
* Bachelors degree, preferred.
* Prior experience in the non-profit arena, preferred.
* Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
* Valid driver's license.
* Salary is commensurate with experience.
