Funds Invigorate Knight Newspaper Communities Deadline: Rolling The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation promotes excellence in journalism worldwide and invests in the vitality of selected communities throughout the United States. The Foundation's Communities Program provides grants to nonprofit organizations that work to improve the quality of life in the 26 cities where the Knight brothers owned newspapers. The program's funding priorities include: the well-being of children and families, economic development, housing and community development, education, civic engagement and positive human relations, and vitality of cultural life.
