The mission of the New England Grassroots Environment Fund is to nurture long-term civic engagement in local initiatives that create and maintain healthy, just, safe, and environmentally sustainable communities. Through the Small Grants Program, the Fund fosters a wide range of grassroots environmental initiatives in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
These modest grants of up to $2,500 are intended to support community groups who represent exciting energy in the environmental movement yet are not being reached by traditional funders.
To be eligible, organizations must have no more than two full-time paid staff and an operating budget of less than $100,000. Requests are reviewed three times per year. In addition to the Small Grants Program, the Fund's Boston Grants Initiative offers grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 for grassroots groups working in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea and Somerville, MA.
