Canopy is a growing Palo Alto-based nonprofit that engages the community in the growth and care of our urban forest. Through well established planting, tree care, and education programs for youth and adults in Palo Alto and East Palo Alto, Canopy creates a more livable environment for all.
Responsibilities
This full-time position will attract an individual who enjoys the variety of responsibilities that a small organization offers. The Program Director is responsible for working with the Executive Director and the Program Committee to ensure that Canopy's programs are well organized. Programs include outdoor activities such as seasonal tree plantings and tree care events, workshops, and other educational events. A large part of Canopy's effectiveness in the community is organizing volunteers. The Program Director is responsible for volunteer recruitment, management and retention. Many of Canopy's events take place on weekends and the Program Director will be expected to work Saturdays several times a month.
The Program Director is responsible for:
* Scheduling and organizing Canopy's program events.
* Recruiting, training, retaining, and recognizing volunteer.
* Developing educational materials such as brochures and displays.
* Working with local government staff and community leaders.
* Evaluating programs and planning for their evolution.
* Writing for Canopy's newsletter.
Qualifications
* Education: Minimum BA/BS or equivalent experience.
* Two years experience in urban forestry or environmental program management.
* Two years experience with volunteer management.
* Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills; ability to work well with large and small groups and people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
* Excellent organizational skills; ability to track and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, and iLife suite.
* Familiarity with Palo Alto and East Palo Alto communities preferred.
* Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus.
* Valid California driver s license.
