Tree Fresno is seeking a Projects Director who is enthusiastic about improving the Fresno County community through the planting and maintenance of trees and development of tree-lined bike/pedestrian trails, who enjoys working with the public, and who is familiar with or willing to learn tree species and care in the Central Valley. An ISA Certified Arborist is preferred but not required.

The job consists of heavy phone work with the general public, contractors, local government representatives and others; computer work, e.g., e-mail, project budget preparation, record keeping, and correspondence, etc.; outdoor work in the nursery and coordinating projects; and attending various meetings. Responsibilities include:

1. Grant writing and administration

2. Project Administration:
* determine viable projects from requests submitted by public, government, the TF board, and others. Get necessary approval and/or permits from city, county, school district, etc.;
* procure landscape and irrigation design;
* prepare project budget so Executive Director and/or Board can solicit funds;
* administer project by hiring contractors for site preparation, irrigation installation, and hole drilling;
* oversee work of above contractors and authorize payment;
* select tree species that have been approved by the agency for whom the project is being done and that are suitable for the site;
* order trees for specific projects;
* inventory and order planting materials (stakes, ties, etc.) as needed;
* prepare and distribute press release;
* contact volunteers;
* oversee installation of project.

3. Administer Trees for Campuses & Kids school grant program:
* After funding has been secured, revise grant request form;
* Submit to school districts and/or principals;
* Evaluate grant request forms to be sure schools will properly maintain the trees;
* Contact ground supervisor re location and type of tree;
* Set date for planting;
* Make sure that the students will be involved in the planting;
* Order trees and arrange for delivery to nursery or for staff to pickup;
* Load Tree Fresno truck with trees and planting materials;
* Oversee planting: do a planting demonstration, explaining each step of the planting process and help the students plant and stake the trees
* Water the trees well before leaving the campus and confirm with the grounds person that they will be responsible for taking care of the tree.

4. Administer Commemorative Tree Plantings: Upon receipt of donation, send initial letters to donor and family; assign Projects/Events Assistant to find location for planting at WWP; send follow-up letter with map; order metal tag; print certificate; assign Projects/Events Assistant to order and pick up tree, tag; arrange for volunteers to assist Projects/Events Assistant with planting.

5. Volunteers: Arrange for plantings for volunteer groups, e.g., People-to-People and other large groups that require service to be on a specific day.

6. Education/Outreach:
* Make presentations to schools about Tree Fresno and the importance of trees
* Arrange for staffing at Home & Garden Show, Earth Day, Arbor Day, and other outreach events. Gather information for the tables and set up as needed.
* Make public presentations about Tree Fresno
* Evaluate Notice of Application: Request for Removal of Trees from Fresno County residents and respond as appropriate
* Oversee tree nursery at Elkhorn Correctional Facility
* Oversee storage container and keep it organized.
* Represent TF on CSUF Friends of the Arboretum Board of Directors, the CSUF Arboretum Subcommittee, San Joaquin Valley Urban Forestry Council, Trails Work Group, etc.
