RiverSmart Program Assistant, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (Washington, DC)

This program, offered within the District of Columbia, has been designed to help reduce stormwater runoff from residential properties. Through this program, homeowners receive grant funding towards installing a landscape enhancement to keep more runoff on their property and out of the sewer systems and local waterways. The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (ACB) has been tasked by the District of Columbia Department of the Environment (DDOE) to oversee and coordinate the installation of these landscape enhancements which may include rain gardens, BayScaping, and replacement of impervious surface with pervious surface as a part of their RiverSmart Homes Program.

The RiverSmart Program Assistant assists the RiverSmart Program Coordinator with the implementation of this program. Assigned duties may include:
* In conjunction with DDOE, educate homeowners about RiverSmart Homes program.
Provide technical assistance and customer service to RiverSmart homeowners.
Help coordinate homeowner/subcontractor meetings and the design/installation process.
* Visit residential properties within the District for photo documentation and meetings with homeowners or subcontractors.
* Collect maintenance agreements and co-payments from RiverSmart homeowners.
Assist subcontractors with presenting their designs/proposals to RiverSmart homeowners as necessary (possibly to include assistance with design of rain gardens and BayScaping projects).
* Maintain database of "Marketplace" participants and assist homeowners participating through this avenue in selection and oversight of an approved subcontractor.
* Assists with program reporting, ensuring quality and timeliness.
Coordinate inspection of installed landscape enhancements by DDOE staff to ensure proper installation and function of each landscape enhancement.

Qualifications

The RiverSmart Program Assistant must enjoy working with people and have outstanding interpersonal skills, good writing abilities and verbal communication skills, computer experience including word processing and spreadsheets, superb organizational skills, and attention to detail. A bachelor's degree is required and some landscape design experience (specifically rain garden and BayScaping) and/or project management experience is preferred. This is a part-time, contractual position. Office space, equipment, and travel are the responsibility of the RiverSmart Program Assistant.
