The City of Baltimore is looking to hire, on a contractual basis, a part-time urban conservation educator/project coordinator specializing in invasive plant species management.
Minimum Qualifications:
* B.A. in Botany, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science or related subject
* Knowledge of invasive plant species, specifically those problematic in Baltimore
* Experience with coordinating volunteer projects
Responsibilities:
* Public outreach and education
* Recruit new "Weed Warriors"
* Train "Weed Warriors" in a certification course
* Organize weed pulls in weed management areas (WMAs)
* Design and distribute brochure to nursery consumers and landscape professionals
* Coordinate, at least, 15 "outdoor experiences" for Baltimore Middle Schools
* Invasive species control
* Maintain 5 WMAs (Gwynn's Falls/Leakin Park, Wyman Park, Herring Run Park, Cylburn Arboretum, Druid Hill)
* Document invasive species present
* Develop invasive species management plan
* Record invasive removal and species shifts
* Reduce one species in each WMA by half
Salary:
The UWW Coordinator is a 1 year part-time (20 hours per week) position with the Department of Recreation and Parks BCRP) - Park Conservation and Community Outreach (PCCO) office. Employee will be compensated only for hours worked at a rate of $15 per hour. This position is Non-Civil Service and does not include the City of Baltimore's benefits package or paid leave/holidays.
