America in Bloom National Recognition

Deadline: February 28, 2014

Communities are invited to earn the America in Bloom national recognition. America in Bloom recognizes outstanding efforts to make communities more livable and beautiful through urban forestry and complementary civic endeavors. Communities are invited to apply for the 2014 National America in Bloom Awards program before February 28, 2014.

Communities are evaluated for their success in growing pride through urban forestry, landscaping, floral displays, heritage preservation, and environmental stewardship. Applicants will receive an onsite consultation by a team of expert judges in the summer of 2014. They compete with other communities in their population category and receive a benchmark Bloom Rating. Civic leaders then exchange ideas at the national American in Bloom Symposium in Philadelphia in September 2014, where winners are formally recognized.

America in Bloom (AIB) encourages cities and towns to broaden their urban forestry support by including local partners engaged in heritage preservation, community gardening, Main Street beautification, water conservation, and other complementary efforts. About 2/3 of existing America in Bloom communities also participate in Tree City USA. The AIB program enjoys kinship with Communities in Bloom in Canada; Britain in Bloom; Villes et Villages Fleuris in France and other international programs.
