November 5, 2009
ACT’s Annual Meeting & NeighborWoods Academy will be held November 7-11 in conjunction with the Partners in Community Forestry conference, sponsored by The Home Depot Foundation and organized by Arbor Day Foundation, Alliance for Community Trees, and many other partners. Plan to join friends and colleagues in Portland for urban forestry’s premiere educational and networking conference. With an emphasis on partnerships, collaboration, and shared successes and challenges, this year’s conference promises a dynamic program, engaging events, and practical ideas and partnerships that you can implement when you return home.
Randy Gordon, Program Manager, Arbor Day Foundation (Lincoln, NE)
This year’s conference program includes compelling regional and national general session speakers, themed motor coach tours of the Portland area featuring Portland’s urban forestry highlights, a signature networking dinner event at the World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, and more than 30 concurrent sessions covering Trees and Development, Community Tree Management, and Social Issues.
Scott Fogarty, Executive Director, Friends of Trees (Portland, OR)
Portland’s sustainability principles are thoroughly integrated into the core of Portland’s planning and urban design. Included are many innovative community forestry-related projects that offer great learning opportunities for conference participants. Friends of Trees, our local host organization for this year’s conference, has been on the forefront of city planning and design, working collaboratively with many partners. Conference participants will have an opportunity to see Portland’s approach to managing stormwater where rain falls with facilities that work like natural systems.
Webcast attendees will learn:
* Overview of the conference agenda and speakers
* What to expect to what to bring to maximize networking opportunities
* Description of pre-conference opportunities
* Resources available including travel scholarships and roommate pairing
About the Members Only Webcast Series
Members Only Webcasts are monthly sessions held at the lunch hour and made possible through support from The Home Depot Foundation and USDA Forest Service. The goals are to update members on current ACT activity, developing programs and partnerships, and future plans. Please plan to join the monthly call to stay connected to ACT, urban forestry, and your peers. Sessions are planned to last no more than one hour, with updates from ACT and at least one ACT member, followed by questions and answers.
