August 22-23, 2007
An urban forestry workshop being held in conjunction with Replant South Mississippi’s goal of planting 300,000 native sapling trees along the Coast will be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Biloxi. The workshop will show local officials how to plan and manage their tree canopies.
It is being presented by the Sun Herald, Land Trust for Mississippi Coastal Plain, and Mississippi Forestry Commission. The Home Depot Foundation and Mississippi Department of Marine Resources are sponsoring the event.
Organizers hope participants will learn the benefits of maintaining a healthy urban forest and the type of investment they will have to make. They will discuss a regional vision to foster the local urban tree canopy and develop plans and important items to take action on.
Elected officials, planners, community leaders and landowners are expected to attend the event, being held at Mississippi State University’s Coastal Research and Extension building in Biloxi.
The workshop will be held at Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension building, 1815 Popp’s Ferry Road, Biloxi, from 8am to 4pm. For more information, call 228-435-9191.
